Are Hurricane Windows Worth the Money?

Upgrading a home’s windows and doors to impact products is an investment that homeowners NEVER regret.

It is a bold statement to say “never,” but since our time in business at Mister Window we have never had a customer say they regret buying impact windows. The only regret our clients have ever fed back to us is that they wish they had upgraded to impact products sooner. And by sooner, I mean years sooner, not days or months.

The question that holds up moving forward is, “are the windows worth the money? Are we going to get our money’s worth out of these windows?” Five years ago, when we had conversations with realtors in the Tampa and Sarasota areas, windows were never a factor and never came up. It was more specific to the homebuyer if they wanted it because they likely had impact windows on a previous home and refused to live without it because of the safety and security.

Today, despite the real estate market being very hot and homes going very quickly, one of the first things mentioned in any listing or advertisement are newly upgraded windows and doors. In 2019 we had the most active hurricane season to date. During 2020 we had the same amount of activity, and in 2021 we are due to have the highest activity to date again. We also have uncertainty in our daily life that we don’t have control over when it comes to safety. What is going to be protecting you and your home when someone, something, or a storm is on the other side of the door?

So, are impact windows worth it? The answer used to be yes just because of the benefits like peace of mind and sleeping better at night. That is still a factor, but now more than ever, people are paying more for better products in a home. Comparing two houses side by side, a home with upgraded windows and doors will be more desirable and move much faster.

There are many variables that go into buying a home, but the one thing I can truly guarantee is that impact products will never affect your listing negatively. There are zero downsides. You can also guarantee it will increase your home value because it is a permitted job that is done properly. When you permit an upgrade to your home the county views that as an improvement and your assessment will go up.

Impact windows and doors will increase both emotional ROI and personal safety as well as monetary ROI.

It may be the right time for you to replace your windows and doors. But how do you know? And how do you choose the best option for your home?

Selecting the right replacement windows or doors can be challenging. Many people find themselves chasing down estimates or sifting through product catalogs when they should be enjoying the benefits of new doors and windows inside their home, such as personal safety, hurricane protection, and increase in home value.

Replacing windows and doors can be much easier. You can eliminate much of the stress of repairs and replacements with four key components: a free home consultation, a highly detailed proposal on what to expect, final measurements and order to the manufacturer, and a seamless installation that’s always on schedule.
