Mister Window Answers Your Most Burning Search Queries About Impact Windows

Originally, Mister Window assisted in comparing Google’s answers to burning search queries to answers from industry experts operating in the industry associated with the same search query. Google and its answers are trusted by billions of people on a daily basis, driving decision-making from nonsensical to the most life-changing.

HG Homeclub thought it was only right to do something that seems to never cross the minds of most these days – Question Google. The way we went about this was by selecting a topic, choosing the top searched queries around that topic, then comparing Google’s answer to said query with the response of an expert in the area associated with said query. Ultimately, we want to see how accurate Google actually is.

Previously, Mister Window, a leader in Impact Windows & Doors installation in the state of Florida, gave us responses around the topic of Impact Doors. We wanted to keep the ball rolling with one of the highest-rated window companies in the home-improvement industry and get their thoughts on the topic of Impact Windows. Ultimately, our goal is to see how the accuracy of Google’s answers to search queries matches up with industry leaders who are experts in the topic. Here’s what Mister Window had to say when asked 3 top queries about impact windows that are currently trending in Google.

Query: How much do impact windows cost?

Google’s Answer: “Impact Windows have an average cost of $1435, with 70% of prices falling between $800-$2445. Sliding glass doors have an average cost of $6140, with 70% of prices falling between $4200-$8230.”

Mister Window’s Answer: If we break it down into two segments, one is a very basic answer and one is analytical (for all my analytical guys and gals).

First, the basic answer. Impact windows will cost you anywhere from $1,200 to $2,200 per window. Included in that cost is permitting, ordering, measuring, removal of the old windows and installation. Based on how big your windows are and their style and configuration, the prices can go up and down.

These are industry averages. If you have a huge window way outside the norm, that could cause it to increase in price up to $20,000. If you are just starting the process and have no idea how much impact windows cost, a good estimate to budget for is about $1,800 per window.

When you are in the beginning stages of window and door replacement, the team at Mister Window is more than happy to have a conversation to help introduce you to it and determine what is the best brand, make, and model for your family. We are a very laid-back family-owned company that does not mind coming out at no cost to you to give you a quote. This way you know exactly what you’re looking for, if it’s something you want to finance or pay cash for, etc.

Right now, 12 months at 0% interest is our most popular plan that prevents you from putting down a hefty down payment.

The other side of the equation that people don’t typically understand or experience is that the cost of windows and doors goes up every single year. In 2021 there have already been two price increases and there are talks about being a third, which is unheard of. However, the demand for impact products in Florida has gone up so much that it’s pushing costs forward. If you are preparing how much to budget, you can save money by purchasing sooner rather than later. At the very least you can expect one price increase per year.

The best/least expensive time to purchase is always yesterday.

Now, here is the nerdy answer: The cost of the window is determined by its size. To use an analogy, glass is like ice. If you have a huge lake that freezes over and you want to skate on it, you would want that ice to be extremely thick in order for it to hold up. If it is a smaller surface area, the ice doesn’t have to be quite as thick because it’s more dependent on the edges and has more support. Glass and windows are the same. As the commodity sizes increase, so does the thickness and density of the glass, and therefore the prices increase faster.

A bigger window is also priced higher because manufacturers won’t sell as many of them as smaller windows. The manufacturer has to pay the same amount to test every window and make sure it meets codes and certifications, so a bigger window that sells less often will cost more to test and will be sold at a higher premium.

Query: How strong are impact windows?

Google’s Answer: “Ultimately, hurricane-resistant windows are capable of withstanding winds of up to 200 miles per hour. If flying debris does hit a window, the added protection will keep the glass from breaking up into large sharp pieces.”

Mister Window’s Answer:

I get asked this almost five times every day, whether it’s at a family barbecue or sitting with a customer. People are really curious about this technology because we are taught from a young age that glass is very fragile and dangerous. That is the image a lot of people have of old-school glass and how dangerous it is — and so do I!

When you think of glass being able to prevent a break-in, it’s difficult to understand because it contradicts everything we’ve grown up knowing, experiencing and understanding.

So, can impact windows break? Kind of. It is a tricky question. They will break, but they will not compromise the integrity inside of the home. What I mean by that is the elements from outside are not going to come in simply because the window breaks, similarly to a windshield. This is because of the laminate layer inside the glass. Whether the window is considered bulletproof, hurricane-proof, or can withstand other intense elements, it is all due to the density and thickness of the glass, the stability of the frame that supports it, and the installation of the windows and doors.

If you tune in to us on social media, you’ll see something called Smash City where we test our windows against many different elements. It can be tough to comprehend or understand what impact glass does, so our videos show how tough our windows and doors are. When we replace your windows, we’ll even show you in real-time how fragile that glass really is.

We’ve tried to break in with crowbars, dropped them off forklifts, thrown rocks as hard as possible, taken a sledgehammer to them, thrown 20-pound dumbbells off a three-story building at the glass, and more — and NONE of them get through. Water, wind, and debris still can’t get through after all of that!

Query: Are impact windows worth the investment?

Google’s Answer: “Worth It. It’s clear that the abundance of long-term benefits from the installation of impact windows are worth the investment. They are more than a seasonal product and can make life easier and safer.”

Mister Window’s Answer:

Upgrading a home’s windows and doors to impact products is an investment that homeowners NEVER regret.

It is a bold statement to say “never,” but since our time in business at Mister Window we have never had a customer say they regret buying impact windows. The only regret our clients have ever mentioned to us is that they wish they had upgraded to impact products sooner. And by sooner, I mean years sooner, not days or months.

The questions that hold up moving forward are, “are the windows worth the money?” And, “are we going to get our money’s worth out of these windows?” Five years ago, when we had conversations with realtors in the Tampa and Sarasota areas, windows were never a factor. It was more specific to the homebuyer if they wanted it because they likely had impact windows on a previous home and refused to live without it because of the safety and security.

Today, despite the real estate market being very hot, one of the first things mentioned in any listing or advertisement are newly upgraded windows and doors. In 2019 we had the most active hurricane season to date. During 2020 we had the same amount of activity. And in 2021, we are due to have the highest activity to date again. We also have uncertainty in our daily life that we don’t have control over our own safety. What is going to be protecting you and your home when someone, something, or a storm is on the other side of the door?

So, are impact windows worth it? The answer used to be yes just because of the benefits like peace of mind and sleeping better at night. Those are still factors, but now more than ever, people are paying more for better products in a home. Comparing two houses side by side, a home with upgraded windows and doors will be more desirable and move much faster.

There are many variables that go into buying a home, but the one thing I can truly guarantee is that impact products will never affect your listing negatively. There are zero downsides. You can also guarantee it will increase your home value because it is a permitted job that is done properly. When you permit an upgrade to your home the county views that as an improvement and your assessment will go up.

Impact windows and doors will increase both emotional ROI and personal safety as well as monetary ROI.

After looking at both answers from Mister Window and Google, we noticed this time around, though the differences appeared to be the same as our previous topic, the vastness in the differences appeared more prominent. Mister Window’s responses carried the expected depth and context versus Google’s answers. But, their responses also appear to reposition a query(ies) based not only on what the query states but the true meaning of what a user is seeking from the query. Once again, an Expert’s understanding of a customer and their intentions is hard for Google to match. Google responses can get the ball rolling, but you ultimately want to speak with an expert(s) who does this every waking hour of their existence.

Once again, we wanted to ask Mister Window a few questions to learn a bit more about them:
